In the market for one now...........

Looking for a machine polisher / buffer.

Flex is too much $$$ for me for a occasional use, plus I am a first timer...so I am trying to take it easy and get a DA.

Out of these.......

Meguiar's G110v2

vs

Porter Cable 7424XP

Vs.

Griot's Garage 6

Who has them and suggestions / comments.

I understand that I would get more input on a detailing forum, but this is home, so I asked here first.

Thank you.

I can`t speak for the other ones but i have and love my porter cable 7424xp.

It is one of the best tools i have ever purchased. After watching a few tutorials on youtube on how to use it properly it`s very easy to use and the results are great.

My yukon just had fine scratches so i didn`t have to do major work but it still took me 6-7 hours to buff it out with two different compounds and wax.

And when you`re just using it to wax your truck it takes no time at all compared to hand application.

Once your friends and family see the results they be asking to borrow it.

This is a before and after on my brothers 98 regal that is a used and abused 9 owner car.

I have a $50 buffer from hArbor freight and a wool, and 4 foam pads for the $$ I am more than happy. I use it on both cars and boat and few cars I detail. Good item for reasonable price

I was recently in the same quandary and ended up going with the Griots Garage 6inch because:

A. Lifetime warranty
B. claims (by users) of more rotation than 7424 or Meg's option.. I've been happy with the results, this is the TA's top center section:

Same results on all my GM products, the GM clear coat is very hard. (The left side of that photo is after an hour of compounding by hand!)

I've only owned this one, so I can't speak to the others.. I didn't like the 6.5 pads it came with, and the common suggestion is to go with 5.5 inch pads (5inch plate) and 4 inch pads (3.5 inch plate)..

Hey Cricket...... where did you buy from?

I saw them slightly cheaper on Amazon vs. Griots themselves.

Also what polish and brand pads are you using?

Thank you.

Polish/ compound- Meguiars Ultimate compound/ Polish

Lake Country HydroTech pads, 5.5 inch and 4 inch

Bought everything from autogeek.net except the compound/polish, which was over the counter at Oreilleys...

Also, Griots just released the 3rd generation design, which is much more ergonomic than the previous generation.. This might explain any price difference.

AutoGeek has package deals, full starter kits with pads and everything for pretty cheap.. May check your options there..

O'rileys for my 7" pads wool-$12 foams are $10 each velcroe. As for polish maguires pro series. Well I have most of the line of glazes, compounds, show oil, high gloss. You can make the pro line into a 15 step process if you desire for a crazy finish or simplify it with a 3 step. I recommend looking into there pro line of products. Good micro fiber towels and clean the pads every other addition of wax to prevent clogs and swirls.
