I have a 2003 Yukon that is burning oil. I hate the car in the first place but need to get this figured out and fixed so I can live with till I can get rid of it. Any ideas? It has a 5.3 with 103,000 on it.

If you hate it why not just sell it as-is??

When you say you're "burning oil" when do you see it exiting the exhaust pipe? At start up? Upon acceleration? Just cruising??? We need more info brother! :)

Welcome to the site by the way :Handshake:

I'm tring to. I see smoke upon acceleration. Not really any during start up. It's burnt through 4 quarts in the past two months. It also gets horrible mpg I'm lucky to get 12mpg out of it. And it is the flex fuel motor

wow...overall, is the truck ok, just the motor? Reason I ask, is you can find 'good' used 5.3's with low miles for like $500 all day long. Think of just replacing it?

Over all the truck is ok, the motor is junk. I wouldn't want to swap another underpowered gas guzzling motor into it. I would swap a dmax into it and make it a real truck. But by the time I spend the money for that I could by a real truck instead of a mall cruiser.

A 5.3 is a good motor and is not under powered but if it's been neglected or not maintained well I'm sure it'll fail over time just like any other motor. If it was mine I'd either do a complete rebuild of what you got, get a lower mileage 5.3 or swap in a 6.0.

Sounds like you answered your own question......

Well I guess if your used to weak gas motors you would think the 5.3 was a good motor it's not it's junk. Any gas motor that was designed to burn oil is junk. I guess I'll just chock this up to a bad decision and trade it off for a real truck again. I'll go back to my 600hp 1000+ft-lb straight six and be done with this piece of crap.

Not to start stuff but I think you may be misinformed here. The 5.3 is FAR from a piece of crap motor. YOUR 5.3 motor may be a piece of crap but the motor in general is a very good motor. Obviously, it's not going to pull or have the torque of a diesel powered motor but it's a good performer and they tend to last a very long time when properly maintained
