I've searched through the site and couldn't find anything in particular on this, so I thought I would ask. Please forgive me if it's been covered and I missed it.

I recently changed out pads and rotors (and, unexpectedly, a rear axle seal) in my '06 Escalade EXT. Living in a northern environment (Central PA), the original torx bolts in the front caliper brackets stripped, and I had to grind through the bolts to get the calipers off. Ultimately, mission accomplished. It was a bit tricky getting the caliper bolt/pin combo back into the caliper, but I didn't think too much of it. I had a pretty bad squeal with the new brakes, which I attributed to poor choice of pad/rotor combo, so I decided to replace the pads with something a little higher end. I replaced the rear pads without issue, and the passenger side without any problem. When I got to the drivers side, I had trouble getting the caliper to line up with the bracket. It almost seems like the caliper is hitting something before the bolts fully line up.

Has anyone had any problems like this? I'm trying to figure out if I someone ended up with a bent bracket, or if I'm just plain missing something. It's not my first rodeo by a longshot; I've done this many times, but this one has me stumped. I ended up bunging up one of the threads on the caliper because of the mismatch (nothing running a tap through won't fix), and I don't want to do any more damage. I'm open to suggestions on this one! Thanks in advance!

True. :) Problem is I don't know that the bracket is the issue. It came apart with no indication of binding or problems. That's why I'm a bit stumped. The brake setups on these are downright simple; there isn't much that can really go wrong. It seems like it would take a good bit of force to bend one of the brackets...

i just re-read your question all you did was change pads right? only two things i can think of is if the inside and outside pads are backwards- not sure if they are idenical or not, when i did my truck i just did loaded caliper with bracket because i went with bigger brakes. wich brings me to my second guess (no offense also simple) but the rotor was a little tweaked and could not line up the bolts .hope my first post didnt come off as a smart a$$ just thinking for the cost of the braket you could be rid of your headaches for the cost of the part, at least that what i would resort to.

No offense taken at all...it's a perfectly valid solution, and it's probably my next step!

I had to remove both front calipers when I first did the brake job. The combination of corrosion on the T55 bolts up front from salt, and the yellow Loctite they slather on the threads resulted in multiple stripped bolts, so I had to cut the bolts between the bracket and caliper to get them out.
My first thought was that I had the calipers flipped left and right, but the bleeders are up as they would typically be. If they were flipped, the bleeders would be on the bottom, which would make it a real pain to bleed.

I'll check the pads again before I go too far with it to make sure I didn't flip them too. Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT: I can buy a caliper AND bracket together, but I can't getting just a bracket could take a couple of weeks. Life in rural PA...

also a little tip for remveing things that have thread locker on them is to heat the bolts/area with a torch all i have is a little hand held and works perfect! they will come out like butter!( just mind rubber and plastic of course.)
