I have a nasty noise in my transfer case. Can I pull the front drive shaft without any problems til I get the cash to rebuild it?

if it's a Denali NO!!! if its a std 4x4 and you run it in 2wd, sure but that doesn't mean the noise in your TC will go away. it could be a bad chain or bearing. the more you drive it...even in 2wd it will do damage.

Thanks. I was worried about losing fluid. I didn't even think about the damage that could be done. Its my only vehicle and I need to get to work everyday. It will be a couple weeks before I have the cash to get a used one or have this one rebuilt. Hopefully it will be good til then.

Drain the fluid and get some new stuff in there, check the magnet on the end of the drain plug for chunks or even filings of metal. if it's similar to the Denali TC the front output shaft is a slide yoke. meaning you can take out the driveline because the yoke is sealed and pulling out the shaft isn't like the rear when you pull it oil goes everywhere.
