Can I use my factory radio for this?

I wanted to know if I could use my factory radio to hook up some subs I have laying around? Or do I have to just fork out the money for a new head unit? I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to audio.

Yes you can use your factory stereo. But you will need an amp with speaker level inputs, or else you will need to get a Line Output Converter to get a low level RCA output from your factory speaker wires.

head unit cannot drive subs without dire consequences. Get a separate amp with a speaker-level input(which taps into speaker line) option to drive those. There ignorance is gone

I forgot to mention I have a 1000 watt amp too. I never planned on using the built in one. But it will all hook up the the factory head unit no problem? Will it effect the sound quality using the factory radio? Because in my silverado I have a pioneer head unit with all kinds of settings to boost the bass and what not.

just get your self some speaker-level converte if the head unit do not have usable pre-outs. it should not affect speaker output.

and be sure you run subs in manufactures reccomendd enclosure and amp at desired impedance.
