So I'm stuck between a few cams. I've got my BB tune and might possibly go and get a new stall soon. I have 3.73s and want a better cam.

My three cams I'm looking into are these:

1. Comp cams LSr 215/223 .604/.610 LSA 112
2. Vinci Trucker Cam 216/224 .551/.551 LSA 115
3. Tsp 220/220

Which would you choose?

What are your goals, or what are you wanting from the cam? All out performance or just a little extra kick?

I've heard good things about all those cams. The Comp grind will be harder on valve spring life so I wouldnt expect much more than 30-40k miles from a set of springs with those lobe profiles. Thats a lot of lift for a relatively short duration.

Well I got a buddy with a rumble bee in the 12s now so I just need some kick out of my hoe. I was thinking maybe the trucker to keep some low end. I don't want to HAVE to have a new converter to run the 220 around town.

BTW, what are your thoughts of the trucker cam with higher lift?

The high lift trucker isnt too bad. I just dont know if its worth the added stress on the springs for the minimal gains in performance. If you are ok with keeping an eye on spring pressures and know they require a bit more attention then go for it.

How tall are your tires? I have 3.73's also but it feels like a pig with the 32" tall tires I have haha...

I think I'll go with the trucker low lift. Cheaper springs I can find for that.

And I'd like to regear after I got 32" mud terrains.. lol

Alright, I'm about to pull the trigger on getting all the parts needed for the cam swap.

I was looking at springs and found the LS9 springs for real cheap from lingenfelter.com
But I need to know if I can run those springs with the Vinci trucker cam low-lift. I don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks to anyone who can help

I have the bigger version of the comp cam. .607/.614 219/227 112LSA and freaking LOVE it. But my burb weighs about 6500lbs so I needed that cam.

How long did your cam swap take? And can you point me in the direction for the valve spring tool? And what do you think about the ls9 springs?

I got a buddy that's gonna help me do the swap right after we throw a 392 stroker in his rumble bee haha

Took 10hrs while taking my sweet ass time. I didnt take off my heads though.

For the valve springs I used a leak down tester to pump the cylinder full of air so valves wouldn't drop and I used the Comp Cams LS valve spring compressor tool. Made it a little quicker since you can do two springs at a time.

LS9 springs are good up to .550 lift? maybe .600 idk double check on that.

I have the prc dual spring kit since im over .600 lift.

Also while you are in there get hardened 7.4 push rods. I have the comp ones with no issues.

I replaced all of that when I did my cam. But like I said I have the prc dual spring kit which came with all of that.

That website has some of the cheapest stuff that I was able to find. (I researched for months before I did this)

Oh and I followed this guide http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23

I went to lowes and got a 1/4 in rod and cut it into 2 24" rods then grinded down the tip to like a dagger tip to make insertion into the motor easier.

want to know another trick for doing valve springs on the truck?

take some 1/4" nylon/cotton rope, pull the plug and stuff a bunch in there and rotate the engine over by hand until it stops. if you lose air or hit the valve it could still drop using the air method. I've done it both ways I just like the add security knowing if I push too hard to dislodge the retainer or something else the valve isn't going anywhere.
