I've been hearing a rattle at idle lately, and finally pinpointed it to my driver side cat. When I tap it with a hammer, it sounds like it's full a BB's. Is it time to change it out?

No check engine light, but the exhaust does smell more than it used to.

Thanks! So how do you find a place to sell them? Google platinum scrap yard?

Also, where's a good place to buy new cats? I see the full y-pipe with both cats on Rock Auto from $300-350. Would be nice to spend a little less.

Found places to scrap the old converters. Now just have to pull the trigger on new ones. Looks like Amazon has the best price on the Walker for $330.

If it's a 'harmonic' rattle or buzzing, it is probably the heat shield above your cat. Mine was broken at one of the mounts, took it to the mufler ship where they cut the whole thing off and threw it onto the pile of Tahoe heat shields.

I had that rattle, too, but this one was different and directly from the cat.

Mine rattles at idle for last 100k miles on driver's side down under the truck while the a/c is on. Will check into cats tomorrow and see what the deal's about. :)
