We went to NTB today to retrieve the key to my wife's locking lug nuts. They were able to immediately program 1 of the 2 dead sensors that Discount Tire couldn't read. Maybe I should try Pep Boys next to get the last one working?

EDIT: I don't think I mentioned it...these were 4 NEW sensors. 3 of 4 boxes were sealed with an Orange Electronics perforated label. The unsealed box still contained a sealed plastic bag, so I didn't question the open box.

And for what it's worth, a 20" OEM Tahoe LTZ wheel with a 275/55R20 Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza tire weighs 81lbs.

We need to see pics of those new wheels.

Final update to this thread in the event somebody does a future search trying to source TPMS sensor replacement.

I do NOT recommend Orange Electronics brand sensors. I spent more money trying to get these installed and working than I would have just paying for OEM sensors from AC Delco.....which I eventually had to do anyhow.

Here's the thread: http://tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54442

I ended up with 3 Orange Electronics sensors and 1 AC Delco sensor........and I was out several hours of my time on top of several dollars spent for installation of defective sensors.

Where is the cheapest and best place to buy TPMS sensors for a 2006 Tahoe?
Are the aftermarket sensors on RockAuto.com decent quality?
Any specific brands to stay away from?

(I searched the forum and Google but really only came up with Yeti's site that doesn't have sensors for this year model)

I've got one sensor flaking out intermittently on my stock 17's and I should be picking up a set of LTZ 20's tomorrow that are not equipped with sensors. I'd rather just pick up a new set and have them installed if I can stomach the bill. I plan on keeping the 17's for winter wheels, so I'd rather not swap the sensors from old wheel to new wheel.

UPDATE: 4 new Orange Electronics sensors were purchased, only 2 of them worked properly. I ended up spending a lot of time and money to resolve a simple issue due to these unreliable sensors. I would recommend OEM sensors to anybody needing a replacement. Amazon had new OEM sensors at the time of this update for $37+tax/shipping.

When you install different TPMS into your 20: wheels I think you need to have them reprogrammed for your vehicle. I would like to do this with my 23" tires that I use in the summer and not the winter but I was told I would need them to be reprogramed every time I install my new set of wheels??

They could not be programmed...that was the problem. I had 4 new Orange Electronics sensors installed at Discount Tire, they could only get their scan tool to program 2 of them. I went to NTB and they were able to program 3 of the 4 new sensors with their scan tool. I ordered another Orange Electronics sensor and it still could not be programmed with the scan tool at NTB. I finally ordered an AC Delco sensor and was able to get it programmed.

Each sensor sends out a unique ID and to my knowledge must be programmed anytime you introduce a different sensor or set of sensors to the Tahoe. I don't believe a vehicle can learn 8 sensors at once, even if only 4 are in use at a time.

UPDATE:

2 of the 3 remaining Orange Electronics sensors failed. I said eff it, ordered 3 AC Delco sensors from Amazon this week. The last AC Delco I received from Amazon worked with no issues....so I'm hoping for the same for these 3. After I get these 3 installed, I'll have 4 OEM sensors and hopefully no message on the DIC.

IMO, Orange Electronics sensors are trash. I've had 5 or 6 of them installed now....I lost count??....and all but 1 have failed or not even worked out of the sealed box they arrived in. Go OEM, even if it's more expensive up front.
