Hey Everyone,

Overall my paint is pretty good, but I have an area on the hood and passenger fender where the clear coat looks rough. I'm not overly concerned with it looking perfect, but I am hoping to at least make it look better and prevent it from getting worse.

Does anyone have a good wax/compound that they recommend for this before i try wet sanding?

From what I can see in the picture, the clearcoat is worn-off/peeled-off exposing the basecoat. The basecoat has no shine as it depends on the clearcoat for that. Same thing happened on the hood of our 2013 (Black). It became foggy and was checking. The Arizona sun is no friend to black paint! No amount of polishing or wax can fix it. Once the clearcoat lets go, it's game over.

We had a local body shop (not a dealer) repaint the hood. They matched the paint, sanded the hood down to metal, reprimed it and repainted and it looks beautiful! Took all of 3 days.

Best $250 we ever spent.

I would gladly spend $250 on that, but I'm anticipating wayyyy more than that.

They D/A'd it down to the metal, followed by prime, basecoat and finally 3 coats of clear.
This was at a friend's shop. They were able to do this with the hood still on the vehicle, saving considerable time/labor.
They did a great job taping-off the sides and engine compartment, so there wouldn't be any overspray issues.
Would have gladly paid 2X to 3X as it looks so good now!

Check with your buddies for a good local shop or two and get an estimate... you may be pleasantly surprised!

Yeah if the clear is gone then most likely the UV has damaged the base coat also.
So I dont know if just wet sanding and re clear would be an option?
