Yeah, try to avoid 4wd on dry pavement. Our rear diffs are really weak to begin with, and that's a lot of extra stress on the system. Test your 4wd on dirt.

To check your half shafts, just reach in and grab them, and push then up/down/side:side and see if they move. They'll move in/out a little, and that's fine, but not any other direction. There's a how-to in the tech section I wrote when I replaced mine. Otherwise, check your u-joints.

It also wouldn't hurt to drain/fill the gear oil in the front diff, if you're doing winter prep. Use 80/90, and just pull the plug on the diff, like the oil pan. Fill it using the other hole. Too easy.

Where from

Where is the clicking coming from? I had that in the front end under the dash and it was just the gauges getting old. If its coming from the back wheel area I believe it was my u-joint but it went away. I had a clicking while turning hard coming from under the front, get your pitman arm and idler arm checked if this is the case. Cheap easy fix. And just hope to god its not your valves clicking, im sure you would know if this was the case

If you are using 4WD on dry pavement and you hear clicking that's parts of your driveline in the front binding. Keep doing it and your are going to start tearing up parts. Don't use 4WD on dry pavement unless you have a system specifically designed to do so.

I can't remember how many quarts the front diff took. The parts house should be able to tell you. It has a separate drain and fill port, and it is pretty easy to get at everything with the driver's side wheel off.
