I’ve seen one post about this, but the answer didn’t work for me. I have a 2003 Suburban that I inherited when my dad passed away. It is in great shape and I love driving it (especially with the Bose stereo!). It has a problem where there is a loud clicking sound in the front dash on the passenger side. The clicking starts every time I start the truck. It’s strange to me because it’s about 50 clicks in about 26 seconds – every time. At first I immediately thought blower motor, but then why would the clicking stop? The one post I found discussed the “blend door actuator”. It suggested I turn off all HVAC controls, unhook the battery for a couple of minutes, then reconnect the battery and start the truck. This would reset the actuator. It didn’t work for me. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I appreciate any help!

I may have experienced the same condition. Startles the heck out of ya, if you are not expecting it. And when it does happen, it is really an annoying noise.

For whatever reason, mine has not done this in the last month or so. I could be wrong, but when it did happen, it sounded like something to do with some kind of motor or actuator related to the HVAC system.

The noise sounds like plastic teeth or gears grinding. maybe blend door or actuator arm gets stuck and broken gears grind until they catch...

I have a Tech 2 tool now, so I might check blend door functions with that at some point. But not until spring is here for good!

I'll let you know, if I find anything on a cause for my noise and post...

Hey, thanks for replying. I’ll be interested to know how it turns out for you. (I recorded a video to show what it sounded like, but couldn’t upload it.)

probably have to replace the actuator but you could try turning the temperature to all the way cold or all the hot and see if it stops when set to either way, sometimes adjusting the temp all the way hot or cold and then back just a little it will make it stop, they get glitchy sometimes.

I got serious about where the sound was coming from. It sounds like it is right behind the top center vent.

That's the worst one, if it is the center blend door. Gotta pull the dash for that one.

If you want to try to share the recording again, host it in like Google drive and then post the link.
