Symptoms:

Fan speed control knob works properly
Vent control knob does nothing
Temp control knob does nothing
AC button lights up, no load is placed on engine though( assuming AC is not turning on)
Recirculate button lights up and functions properly

Replaced:
Climate control resistor pack
Blower motor assembly

( both were shot when I got the truck)

I think it is safe to say your control head is broke. If the disable circuit triggered by fan switch was dead the a/c light should have not come. This would seem to the the unit is power and operating but part of it is damaged. check for dangling metal objects above control head or burn mark if nothing replace head unit. when you do disconnect the mode and temp motor connectors first. and get back to me.

It is also suggested that in addition a pressure switch is responding to a pressure issue, there is a defective switch or the pcm is screwy. Ground the dark green wire on the back of inline connector. Warning: there are two. do not ground the one that goes to the fan switch. when the proper one is grounded and no faults exist outside of the head unit the compressor should kick on.

Start with that.

I checked at advance and pepboys for the control system. Both said its discontinued. I hate buying junkyard electronics unless its speakers. Do you know where I can find one reasonably priced NIB?

First off hold off on the ebay ones. the second one is for, on 1995 models, suburban with auxilary air which the hoes did not get to later.

Second, Wicked, If you have the defroster button also built in the head unit then your part number would be ACDelco 15-72266 and can be had for about $130 from rockauto or amazon and its merchants.

the part number should be 1572547 for front unit with a/c and defroster controls built in. I would leave the clip be and just replace the bulbs.

I'll be uploading pictures later but here is my initial find:

Removed climate control center
Broken clip holding assembly to the mount/ face
Right side mount is missing a clip. Temperature control knob was not on the shaft so it spun freely without actually adjusting the temperature. I'm going to glue the unit back together to see if this allows the adjustments to work and " limp" it through inspection. Obviously this has no effect on the AC buttons but the AC is the least of my concerns at the moment.

Update:

After repairing the broken joints and making sure the knobs were seated properly on the control shafts the system works as it should. Im glad this was an easy repair. I will invest in a new unit eventually but this at least buys me time.
