I'm sure i'm not the only one that has had this problem. If you have had this issue what did you do to fix it? how much did it cost? is it something i can do myself?

Chances are it is the steering shaft. There are (literally) 100s of threads on it and how to fix it. I'm short on time otherwise I would post some links up for you. Should be easy to find. Good luck.

did a little research and yup it was the steering shaft. after looking at a few things on this forum i fixed the clunking and rattling by just unhooking the steering shaft and sliding it in and out a few times then putting it back together. way easier then replacing but i'm sure the noise will come back eventually. it was so easy to fix i'll probably just keep doing this instead of buying a new one.

Just get a new one next time. They're cheap enough, around $65 if I remember correctly.

I had mine replaced on my 05 Escalade as part of the purchase due bill due to the clunk on the test drive. It fixed the problem, but I'm told it will probabaly start doing it again in about 50K miles.

The ones at the dealer are supposed to be an updated version. And Dorman makes an aftermarket replacement.
