Its winter here in NJ. So i have the heat on in my 3003 GMC Yukon SLT - 79k miles. Why do I hear the compressor cycling on and off? I dont have the controls set to defrost - or to a/c. Just plain old heat. Is this normal?

We'll have to wait a 1000 years before we can help you out ;)

LMAO

I have to admit it took a sec to figure out what the hell you were talking about....lol.

You sure it's the compressor and not the fan? If you have it set to "Auto" it still cycles the A/C compressor occasionally.

Whoops. Yes - a 2003. I dont have it set on auto. I just have the heat on - and the fan on low. Its not the fan. I open the hood and can see the compressor cycling on and off.

Hmm. It may still do that automatically to de-humidify the air, especially when you have defrost on. Not sure about these, but my other car does that.

I noticed mine is doing the same thing, I thought I was going crazy or something cuz I kept hearing it cut on and off while the heats on.
Anybody know if this is normal? I doubt it cuz I don't remember hearing it last winter...

ANyone have any info? Lots of folks with these trucks certainly have their heat on this time of year. Is anyone also noticing that their compressors also cycle on and off?

Hey all, first post here so... "Gidday"

Almost every vehicle I know of cycles the A/C when on defrost. It's meant to help dehumidify the air making the defrosting of the windshield faster.

Hey Teroma,

Unfortunatley - the heater is not set to defrost. Its just on heat.
