I have a new body style tahoe (2000)and my buddy has the same rig , (2000) same motor same options etc. he is going to trade his in so he said I could swap the computers because his is wayyyy faster than mine, so we figure it has been tuned with a super chips or hypertech or something. it was like that when he bought it and he didnt get any programer with it. we have the same gearing. can I just swap computers? where is it? I tried the box that is above the pedals and the truck wouldnt start. then when I swaped it back the other one wouldnt start. So I messed with the buttons on the security remote and it finally started. Whew! thought I was going to have to buy a computer.can this be done?

yes, it can, but you will get a check engine light. Each computer is set for the VIN of that truck. But the computer is up front, under the hood. Not inside.
One way to tell is if his has been modded, is take it to the drag strip (yea right, wherever) and see if it will do 100 MPH. If so, it's been modded. Stock it will cut off, way before that.
So to answer, yes, it can be done, but you will need a crank relearn, to turn of the CEL.

cool, I am pretty sure it is modded. the thing lights up the tires and has 174,000 miles. mine is 124,000 and seems normal. I guess its off to the dragstrip(haha) to find out for sure. where is the computer I need to swap and what the heck was the box above the pedals ? it had a brown plug a blue plug and a purple plug. looked computerish to me
