Replacing shocks on 01 tahoe with zw7 rear suspension. I know bilstein springs will work, but will standard replacement springs or z71 springs work as well? Looking at moog 81069 from rock auto. While i am at it, which is preferable-heavier spring/softer shock, or softer spring/stiffer shock? For example, standard replacement with nitro, or heavy duty with a hydro?

A lot of guys run moog z-71 springs with bill stein 5100 shocks, or whatever you want really. If you don't want the extra height from the z71 springs you can run the standard moog ones with whatever shocks you'd like. As long as you get rid of both the zw7 spring and shock you are good.

According to the diagram on this site, gm lists the following options:
w/o z71 w/o zw7 15182554 <<<<<<STANDARD
w/z71 w/3rd row 15182558
w/z71 w/o 3rd row 15182559
w/o z71 w/zw7 15182560 <<<<<<WHAT YOU HAVE NOW

I didn't realize there were two different z71 springs...interesting.
I don't know how aftermarket springs compare but those are the gm numbers. Hope this helps.
EDIT I checked for an 01 as well, they are the same.
