Cracked dash?

Has anyone else had a problem with their dash cracking for no apparent reason? I just replaced mine today, it wasn't too bad to do but I was wondering if there was anything I could do to prevent it from happening again? Would GM do anything about even if its out of warranty? The vehicle has never been in a wreck or anything.
