Create hard mounting points atop A pillar?

My Tahoe would be a lot more useful if I could have a roof rack bar up just above the windshield. Are there any experts on the structure up there? I'd love to just have a little but sturdy lug that I could bolt a crossbar onto with a little riser to match the height of the stock roof rack. I frequently need to carry 24' and longer ladders.

Have you thought about getting the brackets for an LED light bar and just mounting a bar between them.... sounds to me like it would work well for what you are wanting.

If this is only attached to the sheet metal there I'd be afraid of dropping a 32' ladder up there and having it twist off to the side leaving me with damage. I've seen some cars cut up and know there's a significant amount of structure up there. I want to tie in to more of that.

Thanks for this though. I'm seeing more folks blazing down the road with those lights on. Blinding!

Well the brackets bolt into the upper door jamb area as seen in the pic.... the metal in that area is very thick so it should support the weight.

That option is certainly cheaper than paying someone to take down the headliner, cut a hole/slot in the roof and mount in something more solid. I'll have to do some checking. I'll have to talk to some of my buddies to see if any of them has extricated someone from a NNBS Tahoe/Yukon and has "inside" knowledge. I don't want to hope for my own opportunity to do an extrication.
