Hi im new here and I wanted opinions on what people thought of driving a 2001 Tahoe with 226k from New York to Florida. I bought the truck two years ago with 218k and it was obviously kept up with by the previous owner. I drive it every day approximately 50 miles a day. All I have Done to since I've owned it was breaks and a wheel bearing. My parents live in Florida and even though the truck runs good im nervous about doing the trip because of the miles.

Do you know when it last had a tune up? I would have a full tune up, oil change transmission service and filter change NOT a FLUSH! Also change Diff fluid, check U joints, tires and spare a coolent flush wouldn't hurt either.

With that stuff done if you are able to drive ot 50 miles a day round trip to work I would be willing to tour the country in it.

Maybe do a water pump and fuel pump if not sure if done previously for good measure other than that what previous poster said is solid advice and I wouldn't be scared at all took my ford 500 (commuter to work) with 260k from nh to Ohio and back then following weekend to Rochester ny and down through pa and back to nh.

What im really worried about is the fuel pump I hear it whining when it goes below half. I felt the tranny kick about two months ago so I added half a bottle of Lucas to it and since then its been fine. The miles really scare me but im definitely going to tune it up.

I'm heading from Colorado to Maine next month with a 25' travel trailer in tow. Mine's a '99 with 168k miles. I've had it fully serviced, had a bunch of oil leaks fixed, am upgrading the transmission cooler this weekend, and have driven it for the past year without any issues.

There's a chance I might have an issue, but nothing is telling me that right now.

I may do the same trip as you next month, NY to Florida. I've been driving there for the past 4yrs I've had it. Do as mentioned above and just bring a toolbag with the essential tools just incase. That what I do and on my last trip I was thankful I brought mine because my Driverside hub decided it wouldn't want to finish the trip back from Florida and pretty much seperated in Virginia. Luckily autozone had just opened, I parked in the back and in about an hr or so I was back on the road.
Where in NY are you??

One thing nice about these cars when they do break parts are pretty easy to find. We routinely take 300 mile trips in our 02 Yukon 155k miles. Its my kids' favorite car for trips.

I moved from Indiana to Florida in January, I had 198k miles, all I did was an oil change and checked fluids, plus a cheap serp belt from Autozone that I kept in a door pocket. No problems and I also survived the I-75 shutdown for 13 hours.

i think youll be fine. just as a few of the previous posters added, oil change, trans fluid change, tire rotation, check all fluids etc. ive made that trip multiple times PA to FL, TN, Lousiana all with well over 240k on my old yukon. good luck and for good measure id keep a gallon of coolant and maybe a quart of oil just in case

I wouldn't hesitate. I go out of state twice a week for 600 miles for work with a 4.8l with 423,000 miles on it. Original fuel pump. It always tickles me when people think 200,000 miles is old.
