Hey guys, I currently own a 1996 4 door, 4x4 LT Tahoe. I have a chance to get an 02 LT, Auto Ride, 4x4 optioned out Tahoe. Saw it say a dealership right before closing on Friday, so I haven't gotten to test drive it yet as they just got it in.

The mileage on mine is 155,*** and the 02 is sitting at 101, ***.

I power nothing on mine, but the 02 would be $8895 (about $7K out the door).

Mine has some rust issues, and a lot of little nickel and dime things that need to be done that are adding up. I'm not sure I can justify spending the money on mine. It's not inoperable, it's just the little things that add up are all there right now.

The 02 is as far as I could tell on an initial once over, rust free. The tires are good, rims are clean and not pitted. I haven't driven it yet, but it sounded healthy when I started it up Friday.

What do you guys think? Do I spend the money on mine, or do I upgrade to the newer model? Or, do I wait and see what else there is?

im sure you will get a wide variety of opinions. but here is mine. I had a 90s Silverado, wasn't bad overall, but the interior was lacking. I now have an 04 Tahoe, and I can only rave about the comfort of it, and the features. I know its comparing apples and oranges a bit. but for about $140 a month I think youll find yourself pretty comfortable.

In 2006 I moved from a '97 2 door 4x4 Tahoe (110k) to a '05 2wd Yukon (brand new). I can tell you the Yukon felt like a damn luxury race car when compared to the Tahoe. Handling and braking were greatly improved, and while the 5.3 doesn't have the bottom end torque/grunt that the 5.7 does, it will definitely haul ass at higher RPMs.

If you can get a good deal on the '02, I'd say go for it.

Here's a copy of the window sticker.

Possibly getting a new job soon which would make the truck much more affordable.

This is off topic, and I'm not trying to get preachy, but please don't buy this truck for more than you can comfortably afford at your current job. Never accrue debt with the anticipation of new money coming in to pay off said debt.

Oh, it's only an option if I get a new job. My current Tahoe is paid for, so I'm not in a hurry to have car payments again. It's been nice not having them. Again, it's totally dependent on the interviews I have coming up and potential offer(s) that come with that.
