Has anyone built or bought or built box for rear? For family accommodations I need to keep the 3rd row up in my 04 Denali. This leaves very little room for storage of tools and what not. I am knocking around the idea of building a box about 12 inches deep by 12 inches high. Has anyone done anything like this? Any photos or ideas? Would like to be able to hold tools, straps, cables, stuff like that.

Thanks so much in advance.

A buddy of mine has a 8" tall, side to side box built into his. From the back of the 3rd row to the lift gate. It's a suburban though. Really just looks like a raised floor

Thanks for your response. On shorter Yukon we only have about 12 inches of depth so i was thinking 12 deep by 12 or 10 high. I'm not too sure bout the top. I was thinking I can mount anything to the top like a small shovel, fire extinguisher, cup holder... and maybe have the front come down on a hinge...

If it were me I would have the front like a drawer, and have heavy duty drawer guides so the whole tool section could slide out without having to move whatever is on top of it. Wrap the top in similar to factory carpet. And paint the front the same color as the plastic panels and really not many people would know what it was.

I was thinking of the draw idea too but thought it would be too shallow for it to be worth it. Only 12 inches deep and a lot of extra hardware. Do you think its worth it?

With a 12" overall depth, you should be able to get away w/ a 10" drawer as long as the box is steel and not wood.

The slide mechanisms would be on the sides and not take up any depth.

You could fit 2 drawers (top & bottom) @ 10" - 12" of total height
