What's wrong with your front differential that you can't fix it right now? I'd just replace the CV shafts and call it good. You can't drive it with the CV shafts off really. You're going to do more harm that good.

If it's just you need CV shafts, then go to a parts store and replace them. It took me a hour or so of my time laying on the ground to replace one side on a NBS 1500. Nothing complicated at all either.

The CV axles are fine but the diff output bearings are growling and i was hoping that by removing the axles would buy some time till i got back and had the diff repaired.

if you remove the shafts youre going to destoy your hubs

we dropped the front diff on my brothers colorado and pulled the shafts as well obviously and its gone thru 2 sets of wheel bearings already without the shafts in it

my suggestion would be to get it fixed right, and maybe find a different vehicle for your trip

Well here's an update ,I pulled the CV axles and removed the splined stub off of the CV axle that goes in the wheel and re installed the stub and re torqued the axle nut to the proper setting as per the Transmission shop who said it would work . When i get back i will bring it in to b rebuilt. Also removed the input drive shaft. Now it is like a 2WD. It needs the stubs in to keep the preload in the bearings. Thanks for your help.
