aloha folks.so i made the voyage from nj to iowa, truck pulled the trailer well, trip was without incident(2.5 tanks of gas 1079 mi)except...
-recharged ac last month(1 can) was cool.
-3 weeks ago.compressor would not turn on.replaced relay.working well.
-did not use ac again until i moved last week.100+ temps(dont move in the summertime).left early in the am, so i didnt attempt to turn it on until somewhere around pittsburg.no dice.very long, very hot ride after that.
-brought it to the local dealer here in iowa had them vac and charge.held vacuum, recharged, worked great.nice n frosty.used it for 4 days straight, worked fine, tried to use it again last friday.nothing but hot air.
-back to the dealer.said compressor is leaking.wanted $1400.i said no thanks. had them evac it.
went on amazon to purchase a new compressor. lots of choices. id like a delco or delphi unit, but im not sure which one is correct.the p/n on the one in the truck is mostly gone.so much for cross referencing...
1999 tahoe 5.7 4 door.front&rear ac
the ones on amazon are as follows
delphi- CS0120 $220
delco- 15-22124 $245
delco- 15-22124A $170

sorry for the excessively long post.thanks for any help/info...

thanks for the feedback gentlemen...didnt see a sanden on amazon.are they produced under different names?..ive been reading a lot of ac threads on here for the past few days.i had a feeling id hear from you mr.comet. you sir, are a wealth of useful information(and part numbers).kudos to you...hm.the delphi one is listed as a new compressor & clutch (remaned housing& pulley?).the only differences i have found between the two delco units is the A model is $50 cheaper and ships in 3 to 6 weeks, whereas the non A model is amazon prime and will get here in 2 days w/free shipping...
same deal with the orifice tubes.2 delco options.both listed to fit.is there a standard and a premium when it comes to orifice tubes? or one for rear ac?
delco 15-5612 $10
delco 15-50121 $23
thanks again

Delphi one is new? Then I missed that one. Sorry. Must have overlooked it saying so. Regardless the Delphi or delco in stock now will do you just fine.

There are two orifice available. One stock and the other for hotter climates. The rear uses a thermal expansion valve for the rear evaporator.

delphi says new compressor and clutch.not sure if they reused an old housing.looks shiny and new though.delphi it is...any detrimental effects from using the orifice for hotter climates? im guessing it is the more expensive of the two?

logic would dictate that in really cold climates it might cause a possible freeze up but i do not know for certain as it is described as a variable orifice. i just have not been able to test one in person under different climates.

blow it out with dry nitrogen afterwards and don't forget to replenish the oil in each component. draw the sucker down for 2 hrs afterwards.
