Dash BackLights during the Day?

I have a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Sometimes during the day it is hard to see the speedometer and the other gauges on the instrument panel. My 2008 Avalanche has backlights but my 2007 Tahoe does not. The dealership says that this is a design change between 2007 and 2008. That is hard to believe! Does anyone out there have a 2007 Tahoe? Do you have dash backlights during the day on the instrument panel?

No - 07 doesnt. Its an easy fix if you want to. Its just a matter of jumping a wire on the cluster harness. Jump the pink wire with the yellow wire. Pink is the backlight, yellow is ignition power. I did it with mine when I added a RGB kit to a cluster.

I've been looking for a solution for this for years.....I'm actually getting my instrument cluster done next week. So all i have to do is tap the pink wire with the yellow one? That is it??? So basically the backlight is being triggered to be on because the ignition wire is letting it be on all the time?

Ratman - if you need help getting the cluster out - its very easy. Remove the surrounding bezel (you need to remove the vents - both the left and right (right one is the long one)) - remove the gauge trim (plastic with round holes in it) by bulling forward on each corner. There are 4 clips total - one on each corner. Then there are four 7mm bolts holding the cluster in - remove those and youre able to pull the cluster out and access the harness.

Thanks fiatdale. I'll be checking it out. Is it necessary to get behind the cluster and remove it? Those wires should extend some where down and under the dash. Also, do you know where I can get a wiring diagram for this area?

PM me your email and ill send you one. Its easiest to get at the wires at the cluster, not below. Removing the cluster does Zero harm - I know a lot of people think they are going to screw something up by taking it out, but you're not.
