DDMtuning seems like the most popular HID conversion kit on the website. I have a 2007 Tahoe, I'm bout to purchase a HID Conversion Kit and seeing if the community has any input on which kit to get. I will be getting the Fog light and Head light kits.

As far as 35W or 55W, can you put 55W in the fog lights without risking melting the housing?

Has anybody got the Raptor Ballast, if so what is the difference?

I see some other HID kits for around $200, has anybody heard if those kits are better than DDMtuning's brand?

Thanks, all input is welcome.

Hi Chaz, welcome to the forum. Since I was new to this forum not all that long ago and no one else has stepped up yet, I'll add my advice on what I know. First, do your research. Before posting open-ended questions, use your search function like it's your job. There's a ton of information and opinions out there on prettymuch everything you can think of, and HID headlights are nothing new. You should be able to feel pretty comfortable with making a minor modification like that without ever talking with anyone on the forum. That being said, don't be afraid to ask, just don't expect 100 people to trip over themselves to walk you through buying a PnP HID kit.

From personal experience, DDM is a decent company, and a good starter kit. It's actually what I've got now and I'm happy with it. As far as the fog lights, again, do your research and you'll find that those with experience suggest going with 25w ballasts. 55w's will definitely melt your housings, and 35w may or may not, but probably will at some point. I've got 25w fogs from HIDguy and I'm pleased with them. They're bright and match my headlights, and I don't think they'll cost me any money in new housings.

If you want to spend more money, I would suggest doing it right and looking into getting a set of retro projectors done. I'll not get into too much, but there is information on those on this forum, as well as a member who is making them for a comparitively low price.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks VT. I noticed DDM doesn't offer a 25W Ballast. I should prob get both kits from the same company so I don't risk two different colors. I'm not in big hurry and main concern is for them to look right. Thanks for the info and I'll look into the retro projectors.

Contact ddm, I think they can get some 25 watts. They are good, I personally have never noticed a difference when spending 250 on a kit vs less than half with ddm. Good stuff.:)

Coming from a personal experience using DDM for headlights I would highly recommend not to install them. HID's are not designed for reflector housings. HID's are meant for projection setups. Look into a company like black flame customs or cutomlightz and have projectors properly retrofitted. Or if you want to take it on yourself you can buy all the parts from theretrofitsource.

If you still want to go with DDM and purchase the PNP kit this is what I purchased:
Headlight:
DDM HID Kit, 35W, H13 High / Low, 5000K
Bulb Type: H13/9008 Hi/Lo (+$20.00)
Wattage: 35 Watt
Bulb Color: 5000K
HID Kit Wiring Harness (I did not need the HID kit wiring harness)

Fog light:
DDM HID Kit, 35W, H16, 5000K
Bulb Type: H16/5202/9009 (+$10.00)
Wattage: 35 Watt
Bulb Color: 5000K

I would not go 55w in the fog lights as I have heard stories of the housings melting. I have 25w in my fog lights and never had an issue. As I said before I would not recommend installing HID's in the headlight reflector housing. I was flashed at least 4 times a week with them, gets annoying as well as a hazard to other drivers.

Thanks,

chris4851 - Did you build your own housing for your Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Projector Kit?

I agree with Chris. His detailed response covers what I was getting at. The issue with PnP kits is dual; they don't project light properly (due to bulb/housing design) and as a result they blind oncoming drivers. If you wanna try it yourself, that's awesome, and if it works out let us know how you did it...if you want to have someone else do it, here's the link for the member who will do it for you:

It's on my list of things to do...

Sellech - I was going to build the headlights myself, order the parts and an ebay headlight to play with. However after extensive research I decided not to take on this task myself. Black flame customs did my work, they did a great job.

I have the DDM 35w kit in my low beams and love them. I have yet to be flashed (going on 1.5 months now), but I don't have them aimed too high. I've heard of people being fine with 35w in the fogs and others not, so I'm not sure what to do there other than 25w (which is quite pricey). DDM does not have 25w kits, I asked. I've put in 10+ of these kits in my vehicles, friends' vehicles, and my parents' vehicles. None of us ever get flashed unless the lights are aimed too high and I haven't been blinded by meeting any of these kits on the road. Poor aiming can certainly do this however.
