So two weeks ago I had a 11.2 inch DVD player roof mounted by a audio shop. Looked good, everything worked fine. few days later had a dead battery. charged it and worked good for a couple days. died again. so got a new battery thinking the old batterys time had come. new battery lasted two days then that was dead as well. Called the audio shop and they said it couldn't be their doing, as it was only an accessory line, powers down by itself etc. If it isn't the install of the new DVD player, what is the problem?

After the battery goes dead the AC and heater gets screwed up. Drivers side will blow burning hot air, passenger side will blow ice cold. It sorts itself out after a couple of turn offs and restarts. As soon as I plug the charger into the dead battery it sounds like the air divider (wtf do you call that again?) is moving back and forth nonstop in the console. Is this normal?

You need to find out EXACTLY what circuit that DVD player is tied into. If its an accessory circuit (like it should be) then the shop is correct and its likely not the cause of the drain. But if they were lazy and just spliced into the dome light circuit because they didn't feel like running wire up to the headliner, then that can very well be the cause of your battery drain.

Ahh, good thanks. What should I tell the shop guy when he says he spliced into the dome light but that shouldn't be a problem. He seems incredulous that I would be blaming him for my battery drain.

Well, was the problem there before the install? A lot of the times, aftermarket accessiories can force a system to stay awake rather than powering off after a set timer. Who knows where thendvd os getting it power from. Of it tied into the power sockets, well that's a problem because they are always powered

These battery's are weird. Did you by chance have the ignition on while installing the dvd? I have experienced one time I left my one year old Gm fresh battery die from leaving the ignition on for 1.5 hours with no draw while working on it. I wanted to leave the truck in neutral is the only reason why I left the ignition on no radio playing or anything. The battery died and never recovered after even after charging it. 2 weeks later I had to buy a new battery.

Well I think it's fixed now. Shop reprogrammed the BCM A/C-Heater and it only draws 30 mili amps now when all turned off. Must have messed something up with the BCM when I installed the DVD player. Sat for 12 hrs and started right up no prob.

First time I installed an overhead dvd system in one of these I had a battery drain issue. Tapped into an accessory circuit but DVD system caused the vehicles computer to stay active when key was off. I had to use a relay to isolate the system
