So I took my Denali back to the dealership to take it up the pooper over the A/C compressor being shot. I was mad at myself the whole drive there cuz even though it was 19 degrees out when I bought it I should have checked the a/c. So they looked at it and told me exactly what I knew, that it needed a compressor evaporator and orifice tube and it would be $1450 to fix. What I didn't expect was the fact that they told me it was a certified used vehicle and they should have caught it. They said that though it was sold to me as-is they felt that they should take some of the responsibility. So the sales manager offered to split the cost right down the middle with me. I priced all the parts to do it myself plus the cost of a recharge of 3lbs of freon and it came to roughly the same price. So essentially for the price of parts the dealership is fixing my truck at no labor charge. Those guys were great and they will have my business for as long as I live in Wyoming.

Still sucks they didn't catch it being a "certified used vehicle"

Very true. Still better than spending the full $1450 though.

You get a second opinion from another shop for a price to do it?
Sometimes 50% of the dealer price is still more then a local shop

It's worth a shot

Why would he take it to a independent shop when he is going to just pay for parts? With this repair, he is going to get oem parts and will likely get a warranty for 1 year or unlimited mileage with going through a dealer.

+1 The local shops I took it to were saying anywhere from $1000-1200. Understandable when the cheapest compressor napa carries is $300. This way I did get a 1 yr warranty and oem parts.
