I'm sure I know the answer already based on most peoples opinions on dechroming. My 'Hoe is in pretty good shape for her age w/ only 85k miles ('05 LT). For reference here she is:

One of the eyesores was the wheels which had started to corrode around the mismatched metals from the wheel weights, so I have an appointment to get them painted on Friday. I originally planned to get them painted silver and keep the stock look, but now he's got me thinking of going black and keeping the center hubs chrome. If I do this, it got me thinking of blacking out my chrome bumpers and grille. So, what do you guys think? I'm not planning on going crazy w/ it, but I thought it may be a way to give it a mild custom look.

I just bought new tires and I figured paining them was going to be cheaper than buying brand new wheels. I have the P25 option on the 'Hoe -

1) Black wheels - keep center chrome caps or just paint all black.
2) Black grille w/ gold bowtie -or- paint to match the rest of the body
3) Black bumpers - both of my chrome faces have little circular dents in them, so I figure I could just swap the chrome faces with new primered ones and either paint them black myself w/ a clearcoat or have them done professionally.

What do you guys think? Opinions would be appreciated!

The other thing that sucks is that my center caps were pristine before my mechanic did my brakes - when i got them back they looked like they played street hockey with them, so I'll have to either repaint them eventually or source better looking ones. :bawl:

Did you paint the bumpers and grill or did you have someone do it. Looks like you did that lower trim piece too eh.

Did everything with black plasti-dip, took about 6 cans, I did the whole front bumper, even the lip, rear bumper, wheels, escalade roof rack, and escalade rear quarter panel appliqués.

Welp - Got the wheels painted black and tried my hand at plastidip (actually flexidip - the rustoleum version). Overall pretty happy. I screwed up a couple things, but learning is a process I suppose... You can see some chrome on the top edge of the bumper where I either taped too low or I pulled it off too fast and pulled a bit off... AAAAND i tried removing my bowtie before doing this and cracked it...

:rage:

Anyway - here's the pics.

I may try to touch up those edges with a notecard and another spray, but as is it's only really noticeable if you are down low looking at it head on. I still have to do the rear bumper as well to finish out the dechroming. Overall, happy w/ the product - time consuming but works pretty darn well.
