It was in the low 90's here a few days ago, the sun was beating up the side of my Tahoe and just for curiosity, I took my fingernail and tried to pry off some of the door molding and much to my surprise it was peeling back fairly easily. I promptly put it back since I was in a restaurant parking lot, but can't help but wonder if this would be an effective way to remove the molding without the use of a heat gun. I know there will be adhesive material that will need to be removed afterwards, but has anybody entertained this method or am I pipe dreaming here?

The heat gun is just to make it a little more pliable, really after you get the first edge up you can pull the molding back. The way they are on there is double sided tape with a sponge buffer in between to make up for all the nooks and such.

I just removed mine last week. I used the heat gun more fun heating up the adhesive after the moldings were off to get the majority of the left overs off. Then finished up with some bug and tar remover. It took probably an hour ish, it took me longer to get the little molding piece off the rear window hatch then either side of the door moldings.

I have done that before. Living in AZ summers get in the 110 plus. Makes it real easy to just pull of the moldings after a few hours in the sun.

I don't advise doing stuff like that except at your own place. I once tried to open the driver's side door of a 1995 Chevrolet pickup in a public place. Only it wasn't my pickup and it took me a while to figure out someone else had one just like mine. Glad the real owner didn't show up. :uhoh2:

I used Turle wax brand sticker/label remover, bout $7/can, and a plastic paint scrapper. Worked great, it was really easy. The longer you leave the remover on the easier it is to scrap off. A lil buffing after and you're done.
