We got about 2 inches of snow recently and my 2007 denali with the stock 20 inch rims and Goodyear ls-2 tires would not back out in a perfectly flat parking lot. I know I need new tires due to low tread depth but still. My 96 jeep grand Cherokee never got stuck with much lower tread. Both cars had full time all wheel drive. The Jeep would climb a mountain of marbles in a blizzard.

I do know the yukon is heavier than the jeep. The Jeep had taller, thinner tires. The yukon has traction control and jeep did not. I just can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong with my denali. The front wheels started to slip at first and then stopped trying. Is my transfer case bad?

I'm not sure of the tire size but pretty sure your denali has much wider tires than your jeep did. The wider the tire the more chance it will ride on top of the snow rather than dig in. That paired with low tread and the fact that even with good tread goodyear ls2 have a horrible rating in everything.Screenshot_2016-03-07-23-39-58.png

Colder, more icy conditions compared to when you had the Jeep?? These are heavy trucks. The initial start up takes quite a bit of power that is likely to spin wheels. I've noticed the same effect compared to my old X5's

Never had any issues with my old Denali and upstate NY snow. That thing was a beast even with not so great tires. Should perform awesome.

Goodyear Ls2 tires suck!!!!!! I switched to Bridgestone duelers and it was night and day difference with tractions in snow

Goodyear LS tires are one of the worst ones out there, they are cheaper then most all others which is why they come standard on the GM trucks. If you get a lot of snow go for winter tires, or a good all season that is rated better. I prefer the Michelin LTX M/S they are the top rated tire in its category as well as the Firestone Destination LE2. I have run both in over a foot of snow and never had any issues.

Might be totally talking out my rear, but I'm pretty sure the AWD system is using open diffs and relying on the antilock brake system to mitigate spin. If that's the case, just apply a little light brake pressure to redistribute the torque until you get moving. That technique used to work on military hummers when the lockers weren't engaged and you were already stuck.

Your tires must be slicks...Never had ANY problems with my LTZ or my Denali. Both mine have performed flawlessly in the snow. Kansas City snow sucks sometimes too.

I agree. Im running Michelin LTX2 all terrains that are mud and snow, rated on my 2006. My truck is a beast in the snow her in my little ski town up in the mountains. It all depends on,cinditions, your driving in and also tires. Goodyear tires are not the best from my experience. That I'm running ,michelins I won't buy anything else.

Thanks for the response guys! Looks like I'm switching to Goodyear wrangler a/t tires as soon as my lift is done.
