dimmer switch problems

I have a 95 Yukon that keeps shorting out the dimmer switch on the steering column and the on off switch for headlights and park lights... also my brake lights are not working has anyone else had these problems or know what the problem may be

how is it shorting it out? you just replace fuses or replaces switches over and over?
