Hello -
I have a 2011 Tahoe 4WD LTZ with 70,000 miles.
I was getting some epic vibrations between 30-40 mph so was not surprised when the dealer diagnosed (road test and codes) a faulty torque converter, and replaced it under warranty. I also requested a state inspection, and they charged me for an end-link replacement, which they identified as problematic.
When I picked up the truck - it drove great, and for a full day I didn't notice any vibrations whatsoever.
** The next day I did tow a small trailer of rocks, used the tow mode, and had no issues that I can attribute to what happened next:
Over the next few days, I started to feel vibrations in the pedal, steering wheel, and all over the truck, at really all speeds. It felt like something was either loose - falling apart - or I had thrown a wheel weight or two.
I returned to the dealership, and they did a road test and found nothing to speak of, no codes, and returned the truck to me.
A week later, I showed up again, and took the mechanic for a drive together - and he said he felt nothing other than the V4 mode, which he said would run rough, and again saw no codes, and felt there were no issues.
I took the truck to the tire shop - and had the tires (with 8,000 miles on them) checked and rebalanced - there were no tire issues to speak of.
I returned the truck to the dealer, and took the manager out for a drive - he certainly felt something which he believed was behind the transmission, and took the truck in, and had them do the following:
+ remove and rotate the driveshaft in the event it wasn't indexed, or somehow the transfer case was rotated while it was out the first time)
+ inspect the transfer case, the axles, the u-joints, and several other areas that could be contributing to the vibration.
They returned the truck to me after a week (no charge) and rotating the drive shaft (they found nothing else) and it drove pretty good for a day.
But the following day, and in the subsequent weeks - it has regressed to the same situation:
+ vibrations in the wheel, pedal, and seat at any speed - do not go away when Neutral is engaged
+ big vibrations when going over a bump or pothole as if there were real problems in the tire balancing (which are showing as balanced)
+ a general feeling that the front end is loose and is about to fall apart
Does anyone have any thoughts here?
Do you think the torque converter replacement or end link replacement caused the problem? Do you think the towing created a new, unrelated problem? What do you think it could be?
I'm considering bringing the truck to another dealer and presenting the problem - I'm also considering ditching the truck and cutting my losses. I find it odd that the truck has been in the shop multiple times with no resolution (and no charges)
Thanks!
