IF you, your mechanic, or someone else you know has access to a Snap-on scan tool you can program a key fob on your own with no dealer or locksmith needed. This of course saves a big chunk of money.

I bought a Transponder Key and 6 button remote on Amazon for $12 (HERE). After being shot down by Lowes and OSH, I had the key cut at the locksmith shack in the parking lot of a local junkyard for $3. So all said and done I spent $15 for a new key and remote.

To program with the scan tool follow these steps. Felt like 2 minutes, took 5 minutes tops using a MODIS Edge tool.

1. Tun on the tool, select Scanner, and then select the vehicle (YMME VIN)
2. Select the Keyless Entry system
3. Select Module Setup
4. Select Program Key Fobs
5. Read the instructions and then select Continue
6. Select an option (Erase all and program, program to an empty slot, etc.)
* I chose next open slot
7. Scroll to empty slot (#3 in my case)
8. Press "Y" on the program option at the top of the screen
9. Press "Y" on program, then press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK button unit YES is displayed at the end of the slot on the screen.
10. Done, exit menu on tool and test the remote
