Trying to reset cam on my 99 tahoe as I just did the lower intake. Am woundering if anyone knows if this scanner reads what I need.

Also it says this in the user man.
"Mode $01 – Identifies the Powertrain information and shows current data available to the Scan Tool. This data includes: DTC set, status of on-board tests, and vehicle data such as engine RPM, temperatures, ignition advance, speed, air flow rates, and closed loop status for fuel system."

if your referring to the camshaft that cannot be "reset"
also dont expect alot out of anything from harbor freight
its fine if you buy like a socket wrench or just a wrench maybe a screwdriver but a scan tool hell no your better off shopping on amazon

If your looking for a simple code reader oreillys. Napa. Autozone etc have those. Buddy of mine bought a higher end one from oreillys that does damn near everything for a universal scanner.

Still trying to figure out what he means by cam haha. Crank relearn? Ignition timing? Camshaft timing need not to be changed.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking but I don't think so. I picked one of these up super cheap with one of their coupons($69?) It's great for viewing and clearing codes. It also gives you option to view data live, so let's you know if sensors are responding. Some of the readings I have no idea what they mean as I'm not a tuner. For the price I thought it was worth it.

I will say no to that scanner."CAM_RETARD" is a gm perimeter and requires the scanner to be able to read make specific pids. are you running with out the cel being on? if so then you have probably landed the dizzy in the tolerance area. or do you have light?

Thanks Sunlit. Yes I have a light on. I just redid the lower intake gasket and had to take off the Dist. Mark the crap out of it before removal but sill got the light. Its running great with no leaks so will need to take it in to have it put back in to +/- 2. Its only 100 bucks just was thinking I could buy a scanner to do my self then return it.

Sounds like your are just a bit off if it is running great.

Unless the dizzy is a tooth off, can you move it like 1/8"-1/16" in either advance or retard direction, (Clockwise or counterclockwise?) then disconnect the battery to clear the trouble code and see if the "Service engine soon." light drops off?

Trying to save ya $100.

good luck with that. stores have caught on to that practice so once you buy a scanner and open it it can only be returned for exchange if defective. no refunds. and store s that scan for you will not have the ability to see that pid either because it would cost then more money.
