Hey guys, I'm new to the site and new to Tahoe's. Just bought a 99 Tahoe last month and I'm trying to fix a few issues it has. I noticed the door locks did not work, So I checked the fuse. Sure enough it was not there. I replaced the fuse and it instantly blows as soon as it touches the terminals. I'm hoping this is a common problem or some one has dealt with this before. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Welcome to the forum and with the priblem you have a short somewhere thats why its blowing the fuse. I would ohm each wire for the locks and find which one it shorting which and get it fixed. Or yu can get another harness depending on what it really is

I guess I was hoping for a little more insight. Because that fuse has the lighter, amp, lumbar, locks and mirrors on it. Looks like I'm in for some long agonizing days of testing and hopefully fixing this issue. If you know of any diagnostic tricks to make it easier, please share...

I have the older 94 so its pretty different but well i would start out with the trusty ohm meter and put a new fuse but dont start it or press the button so it is a closed connection and then see where the short is from the switch itself or test the switch with a good one

That's the odd thing, the fuse blows with the key not even in the ignition. With the vehicle off, the fuse blows as soon as it touches the contacts in the fuse panel.

O.K.. I got it.. First you have to remove the lower part of the dash. Under the steering column You see a panel with a vent in it, you must remove that first. There are a couple of screws on the bottom edge, after that it pops off like the rest of the dash. Once you get that off open the glove box and take out the ashtray. Now you will see the bracket that the lighter and auxiliary plugs are attached to. On the left and right edge you will see two tabs on each side, pop those out and you can then pop out the lighter housing. You were right I disconnected the lighter , now locks work and fuse hasn't blown. Thanks for all your help..
