I have a 2004 Tahoe Z71 with Onstar and the Bose system. I am looking to buy a new head unit for the Tahoe and love the double din setup, not looking to spend a fortune. The ones I see online that have been installed have had the dash insert trimmed or cut. Is there a double din stereo out there that does not require any trimming, and if so please do tell?

I just did one in my 04 z71.
With the trim kit. Nothing on the dash side needs trimming.
The part you cut is inside the dash. A vertical reinforcing bar. A decent cut off wheel with a dremel has it out in minutes.
I did mine, including my own soldiering in under 2.5 hours. All in for about $290

Cmc76, yours looks awesome and is exactly what I was talking about. What model and brand is your head unit? Any further info on parts would be sweet too, thanks.

I recently bought a Pioneer MVH-300EX off Amazon for $175. It has pretty much everything other than CD, DVD and NAV. If you don't need those features, it's a pretty good price for a brand new model with a big touchscreen.
