I just developed the dreaded lifter noise on my 07 5.3 Tahoe. It sounds like a tapping noise. It is on the driver side (most common) and apparently Chevrolet says this is a normal noise coming from the engine. Does anyone else have this and know how to get rid of it? It seems to happen after I have been driving for a few minutes and lasts about 5 minutes.

My 07 is doing the exact same thing. It last about 5 min and goes away. I used some engine restorer from the auto part store and it didn't occur again for a few weeks.

so its not a cold start noise yer talking about then
because mine starts ticking at random i could be driving around all day with no noise then on the freeway all the sudden it starts then all get off the freeway and get to the light and ill listen for it and its gone all the sudden
mine does it at random intervals maybe once a week for roughly 5 min give or take a few

This is the reason I'm getting rid of my Yukon, the noise is unbearable with 214k on ours. If I want to hear the clatter, I'd just drive my Duramax

Do these trucks have the oil filter screen below the pressure sensor that fliters the oil for the VVT hardware? I know GM built earlier engines with the hardware but not the software. I understand that a lot of these engines with higher miles have issues with the filters clogging and leading to valve train issues.

Yes they do. Just cleaned mine and replaced that damn oring at the oil catch pipe. Pressure is now stable
