I've got a 97 2 door 4x4 tahoe. The motor/tranny has 187K on them. I just replaced the rear end and the transmission mount. When I'm driving down the street something starts shaking. I know it's not the tires cause when I let off the gas it stops. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before and what was causing it? Could it be the U-joint or the rear drive shaft?

Check the U joints, just crawl under there and try to move them. Look for movement in the pinion bearing as well. And check the yoke coming out of the transfer case.

That is where I would start.

There is a little bit of fluid dripping from the transfer case yoke. And what should I be looking for?

Alright, so I climbed underneath. There is no movement, all my u joints seem solid. I talked to a few friends and recommended that it could be the driveshaft, or the chain in my transfer case. How often do the transfer cases have slack in the chain?

I haven't had the truck aligned, and I bought the tires used and the guy that I bought them from said he didn't have a problem with vibrations or bouncing. I tried to find a new drive shaft, but I haven't had any luck with that either. I've already replaced the rear end and I'd rather not keeping throughing parts at the problem if someone has already gone through this.

Driveshaft.

BUT

you says fluid around the yoke? could be the bushing in there allowing the yoke to vibrate

You have any idea where I can find a new drive shaft? Or should I just look on ebay for a decent used one? Also I would think that it could be the out put bearing/bushing on the transfer case, but there was no movement when I pulled on the drive shaft.

The shaft might need to be balanced. I had a bushing go bad, the only indicationwas it was chewing up seals and leaking
