I heard a popping noise when i was getting into my 08 yukon XL and noticed that the bottom half of the driver side door and front quarter panel were meeting (no gap). The door closes and locks fine. The only thing that appears shifted is the door. I took it the collision department of the GM dealership and they told me the damage was due to a strong wind catching the door. The mechanic said it was a pretty common thing, then quoted me $700+ for the repair. The dealership said it wouldn't be covered under warranty because it was considered damage and not a mechanical defect.

Can the door be adjusted by just loosening the bolts on the hinge or is it complicated enough that $700.00 + is a reasonable estimate?

Door gap issue fixed

I fixed the issue by placing a 2 X 4 at the bottom hinge and slowly pushing the door in. I guess the area of the chassis where the hinge is attached had just slightly bent out when the wind caught the door.
