I have 2005 Tahoe that has a Clarion VT1500B entertainment center. The issue is I have two small children that are to you to keep headphones on and I would like to be able to play the audio over the car speakers. I am trying to find the best way to do this with the least amount of work but I don't want a bunch of wires strung all over the car. My first thought was to see if there is a simple powered 12v speaker that I could maybe mount overhead near the player and connect to the aux output on the player. I haven't been able to find anything like that though. Anyone know of such a thing. Secondly I thought about putting in an FM transmitter, but without routing wires my only choice there would be to put it up above the player in the ceiling which means I wouldn't be able to change the transmission station if I needed to. Does anyone have any suggestions? It just baffles me that these companies make $1000 units and the only way you can easily listed to them is over headphones.

The vehicle doesn't have an aux input, so how would this get sound to the cars speakers?

for the exact setup you have, there would be two options. as mentioned before, to get the sound to the truck's speakers you would have to use an fm modulator. since the clarion unit only has a rca aux out, you could simply run an rca pair (12-15' should be sufficient) from the unit to the dash area. the most efficient style of modulator is the inline (for your truck, you would need two antenna adapters, 40-gm10/40-gm20). with inline, they have a separate turn on switch that when activated will block the incoming fm radio signal and send only the auxiliary audio through the antenna. this unit will never have to have the frequency adjusted once set, either. - http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-Audio-FM-Modulator-Universal/dp/B0007THIDQ

the other option would be to get a set of ipod/computer speakers. a powered set (battery if possible) would be your best bet, as the rca output will be a low-level output and need higher amplification for decent sound. you would have to splice the rca outputs to a headphone jack (or buy an adapter similar to this: http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=213271840&sellerid=23962916). this method will get you audio, but there will be visible wires/speakers unless you have a way to secure them to the ceiling and will sound inferior to the fm modulator method.

there is a third option, but that would require getting a new unit altogether with a built-in fm modulator and swapping them out. given the size of your current monitor, this will not be the most feasible and most likely will not cover the current surface area used on the roof, either leaving screw/access holes exposed or having permanent creases in the headliner where the current unit sits.

the above links are for example only, you can probably find a better price on both products or similar if you look hard enough.
