My engine light has been coming on lately. I have an OBDII reader and the engine code is P0114-Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Intermittent.
I noticed the code comes on in really cold weather. This morning the temp outside was about 15 degrees. I used the remote start to start the car which it did, only to turn off about 30 seconds later due to the engine code.
Has anyone else had this issue before? I searched online and this is what i found:
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Possible causes
- Dirty air filter
- Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor harness is open or shorted
- Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Faulty intake air temperature sensor
P0114 Description
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is built into mass air flow sensor or in some vehicles mounted to the air filter duct housing. The sensor detects intake air temperature and transmits a signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
The temperature sensing unit uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. Electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases in response to the temperature rise.
The Intake Air Temperature signal is used as an input for various systems in the vehicle.
When is the code detected?
The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected an erratic signal from the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor during the system monitor test
