Was just pulling my buddy out and looked down check gauge light was on and had no oil pressure so I shut it off and checked the oil level it is normal. Have 5 to 0 oil psi at idle and around 20+ while driving but there is definitely something knocking from the lower end. Thinking I washed out a bearing or something and it's squeaking from the front end. My buddy says he think the oil pump needs to be changed but from the sounds of it the damage is already done and doing that is a waste. What should I do? What should I check for? I doubt it's something that easy from the way it's knocking. how much would a rebuild be? And I was almost wandering If I can use any 350 block with my upper end thanks for any help you can provide

What year? I'd just rebuild it. Get a junkyard motor and redo gaskets on it. If vortec then vortec if tbi then tbi don't mix match

It's a 98 vortec Yukon I wasn't even really rough on it pulling him out either. Going to get it on the hoist tomorrow and pull the pan and check it out what should I look for? Could it be a simple fix? It's not that loud but I know it's from the bottom end could it be a wrist pin?

Look for bearing material in the pan that's gonna be first thing I'd look for

Pull the oil filter and cut/peel the metal can back. Inspect between the pleats of the filter media. If you see any metal flakes it's time to pull the engine.

unknown at this time.
Remove the dizzy and prime the engine manually with existing pump then take a chance and replace it with a new one and prime again before running. If still knocking then You will need a bearing job likely. Inspect the pan and old oil too. Replace filter and oil between pumps. Possibly if still knocking change to a thicker 10w-40 to help slow further damage until a full repair job can be done.

I good rebuild kit plus other items not in the kit for the entire engine can go past $700 easily. There are some parts that are way better then others. Sometimes from the same manufacturer. Exactly what do you want to do for the rebuild if you choose to do so. I Brand new GM long block costs about $200 grand from jegs. Sometimes discounted too. And I do really mean new. No used parts. Not even a reuse block or heads.
