Hi guys. I'm new. I have a question about ENGINE oil coolers for my SUV. I want to know what the best ENGINE oil cooler is and what are the disadvantages.

I have a 2011 Yukon XL 1500 SLT 4WD with 5.3 V8. I added an AirLift 1000 kit to the rear, added an OEM external transmission cooler after the radiator/transmission combo cooler, and it has a power steering cooler. I had the "soccer-mom" 3.08 differential changed out for the 3.73. Now it totally kicks butt, with the towing capacity increased from a measly 5,000 lb to at least 8,500 lb (the transmission guy says 9,000 lb). Transmission top gets into 170's-180's when towing, with a highest temp of 196 briefly during summer towing.

I would like to add an external ENGINE oil cooler, but I'm not sure what to buy. There are some built "ports" just above where the oil filter screws in, and I think this is where I would connect the ENGINE oil tubing. This makes me wonder if I need the "sandwich plate" with ports and "oil stat" that some manufacturers advertise. I understand the pressed-plate design is probably superior to the tube/fin design. I can't figure out what the best brand is (AC/Delco/OEM, HAYDEN, that brand from UK, etc). I'm looking for the best one that will not over cool, under cool, or be likely to leak/fail. I presume I need one with a thermostat/oil stat. I live in Virginia on the coast and it gets a little hot here. I tow a boat (probably under 5,000 lb), year round, but mostly in the warmer weather.

(Crickets chirping)

To condense my question:
1. Best brand of ENGINE oil cooler for my yukon xl?
2. Do I need adapter/catchplate with a thermostat (oilstat) or can I directly connect to the existing ports just above the filter?
