I am looking at picking up a 1998 LS from my friends Grandpa. Shit is clean clean clean and I will probably be able to get it for a more than fair price.

It will serve as my commuter/daily drive to college(4hrs each way). The thing is I am really not ready to part with my first love......... Stick shift, slamming gears, barking tires, chirping rubber.

I just want to get the Tahoe handling right with a nice suspension setup and I kinda want a T56 to go along too. I know some of you might think a 6 speed suv is kinda pointless but I still think it would be a fun and rewarding project. MPGs would be on the rise too. Can anyone else dig it?

And whats a little turbo on the side lol? Correct me if I am wrong but shouldn't the T56 be stout enough for 400whp?

I just wanna get into a tahoe so I don't have to bring my little rev-happy 1.8 Acura Integra to and from campus whenever I venture home.

Any thoughts? I really just want to see what you guys think about my idea. If I go through with it and it doesn't turn out like I hoped then I will still be able to throw the old tranny back in.

that would be a LOOOONG throw for shifting in that thing. I bet it would be more of a pita to drive. The shifter on my T56 is about 2 1/2" tall, the shifter in your truck would be what....1 1/2'? thats too tall imo for that trans. If I had a 2wd truck, I would build the A4 and put in a decent sized stall converter in it!

You could easily just pick up a short shift for a camaro/vette to overcome this.

Too much work? How so? I can't imagine it would take more than a weekend personally.

You just need the clutch pedal out of a 5spd 88-98 truck. It's not like tahoe has it's own specific floor pan.

502 carbed with a T56. It is what I would aim for except stock motor and a 4 door tahoe. I really would just go straight to a LQ4 before I'd throw any money into a stock 350. MPG is the name of my game lol and the dinosaur 350 can't hang with LSX motors......

LSX swaps aren't cheap.

If your goal 400 then you can easily get that out of the 5.7. Money for the LSX Swap used to beef up a 350 and BLACK TUNE IT is easily done!

Or I could just swap a stock LQ9 in for under $1500? LSX swaps are not out of reach.

Are you doing all the work yourself? The harness from Nelson isn't cheap either way.

GL finding a Low mileage motor with ALL ACCESORIES! I'm not trying to knock ya but help ya!

Your goal is 400hp.

Cost of motor and all shit to swap=$$$$$ plus the bolt ons to make it 400 hp > the cost of modding a 5.7L to 400hp.
