Just picked up our '08 Tahoe (4wd Z71) after a rear differential rebuild and I have new ABS and Stabilitrac warning lights and the mechanic said he got C0245, C0035, C004 and C0045 error codes on his scanner. Those things appear to be about both front and one rear wheel speed sensor faults and wheel speed frequency error.

I understand that it was run on the lift to diagnose the differential noises.

Any input would be appreciated and also what would be a decent backyard mechanics scanner to work through this with?

You'll have to have a 'good' scanner to clear those codes.. Then just just drive
it and see if any of them come back...

check the abs harness on top of the frame above each shock, if the shocks were removed or unbolted at all or if someone stuck there hand up there the harness can come undone, the connector sits right above the top bolt of the shock on the frame both left & right side. Also check the sensor wire on each side where it is bolted into the axle to see if one got damaged/smashed/yanked out etc.

abs codes will go away on there own if there is no error found in the self check pretty much instantly, they are not like obd codes.
the only time it would not is if a module was replaced and a relearn was needed or a there is a error like a broken wire or no communication/data feed, etc.

Ok, so I found two codes myself. I have no idea how the mechanic came up with a grocery list of codes but all I got was the two.
One is about "Brake switch high voltage" and the other is "Left rear wheel speed sensor circuit".
I suspected an issue with the brake switch because the cruise control won't engage. Not sure if that relates to ABS too but since there is a code for the left rear wheel circuit I am guessing something happened back there during the rebuild. Should be easy enough to take a look at.

Will a bad brake switch on the brake pedal affect the ABS?

Mine didn't, but the cruise control would not work.

Right you are. Fixed my cruise but not the ABS warning. Looks like the left rear speed circuit has a fault.
Wish the spare tire was out of the way.Wrestling that thing is not back friendly.

The wiring for the ABS wiring as it attaches to the axle could have been damaged, I accidentally stretched mine but caught it before breaking them once when I dropped the axle.

They may have damaged the VSES reluctor inside the axle tube if they replaced a bearing on that side.

The simplest issues may be that the connector at the axle was not put on right, check that first, it's cheapest!
