i have a 02 tahoe LT 4x4 vin Z.. i want to put a cat back on my tahoe but cant afford the nice kits.. i was wondering if i can get away with buying the intermesiate pipe with a pretty decent muffler like a decent muffler like a borla proXS and keep the original tailpipe with a tip.. or does the piping also make a big difference with sound and performance? thanks for any help

Nah dude just pick out a nice muffler and go a a good muffler shop...ask them before you purchase the muffler...hey what would it cost to cut out my stock muffler and weld this muffler in. I bought as mac 3in muffler in stainless,a 4in stainless magnaflow tip and had a muffler shop weld it in. I had them add a 3in new tailpipe thought because i wanted the tip closer to the body. But you DONT have to get a new tailpipe and it wont affect sound or power all that much. Stock pipe size is between 2.75 and 3in so just get a 3in muffler and you wont have a problem

just cut the pipe off after the muffler and dump it down. i smashed the crap out of mine cause i was a little too low a couple of times. after spending $300 and just tossing it, i dumped my pipe before the axle.

well it turns out that you cant even make the 5747 fit out trucks. the first pipe has the totally wrong angle on the flange. No big deal, Ill just cut the stocker and use it right. Well that went just fine until you try to go over the axle. The pipe they send could be made to work on a stock height truck, but it is either in danger of hitting the frame cross support above or the panhard bar below if your lowered at all. I do not like that tell tale exhaust bang when the pipe is hitting the truck so I opted to not install it. I figured, it was only $149, but I could get any muffler of my choice for $100 and just weld it in, so thats what Im gonna do.
