Extended Warranty.....Yay or Nay?

Not sure I'd bite on that for 5/60. I'd want six years minimum and more miles (72K ?) if your use would need it.

My A/C Condenser went belly up at 82K miles. Thank heavens GM covered the entire cost. Had it repaired the following day after it went belly up.

I vote yes for a extended warranty. The extended warranty should be till 100K miles or slightly more.

With that said never had a extended warranty on any vehicle I bought but there are so may things that can go wrong with ANY vehicle on the market today.

The devil is in the details. BEFORE purchasing the extended warranty read the very fine print and pay particular attention to the exceptions. You may find that there are multiple exceptions resulting in non-covered items.

There is absolutely no doubt you will find exceptions that will surprise if you take the time to actually read the contract. The salesman likely said it covers 'everything" and then you find out it doesn't. Plus you will find out that any teardown to find problem or diagnostics will not be covered if the problem is a non covered item or you will find out that only a % of the teardown and diagnostics are covered if the component is a covered item.

I cannot say it enough. I don't trust extended warranties.

You have to look at extended warranties like an insurance policy. You may not use it but its there if you need it. I haven't had an accident in the last 15 years but I would still maintain auto insurance, even if it wasn't a requirement. I was under-insured on my home for many years and we decided to cough up another $400 a year on our homeowners - just in case - because the cost to rebuild the home is way higher now than it was when we first bought the home.

So I just picked up a 2019 Yukon SLT. It was a GM corporate car from Michigan. It has 22,980 mile on it. The car fax was good, it had all the service done at a dealership in MI, oil change rotate etc...

So I am contemplating an extended warranty. I can get a 5 year 60,000 mile for $1745. That would take me to 62,980 miles. I am not sure if it is a good deal or not. They say that extended warranties are the biggest wast of money.....until you need them. With all the computers and modules on this truck if anything goes out it could be costly.

So do any of you have an extended warranty? Has it paid for itself? I know that the power train is up to 60,000 miles that would cover anything engine or trans, but what about everything else.

Just wondering what your thought are.

Our last 2019 Yukon Denali Ultimate, we went with 6yr 100,000 full warranty and we always have on our other vehicles. IE 2011 Chevrolet Suburban and 2004 Yukon Denali - They have always paid for themselves. With all the fancy electronics especially on the new 2019 Yukon XL Denali, I think that it was a no brainer. Good luck.

Just wait and see where at somewhere between 70K - 100K, the Blend door actuators for the Auto Temp Zone controls fail and they tell you how much it costs to pull out the whole dash, the air bag in order to replace 3 blend door actuator controls...! OUch. Our 2011 Suburban had the trans Torque converter fail and that was expensive (covered).

The cost of that warranty is EASILY the cost of just one visit and repair, period.

There have been some updates to laws in some states. CA is one of the best states to have a warranty or service contract. They pretty much set the standards for all other States.

What others have said in favor of as well as coverage of bags & compressor and seals. The really expensive $15 seals that cost $1,000 to replace. The mains on the motor, trans and diff’s will make you sick at how much it costs to stop a drop.

A/C repairs will also pay for themselves. Lastly when it comes time to sell or trade in the warranty the cost of that warranty or S/C will come back to you 2 or 3x. When trading in our 06 Denali XL in early 08 the GMPP rewarded us w/ $30K w/ 40 clicks on the clock. We paid $40k for it as a former “Test Drive for the Weekend” vehicle w/ 8K on the clock.

Never had one issue w/ the 06 Denali except that depreciation hit all big SUV that year. In Cali during 09 you could get an 06 Escalade for $9,999 or less as the new body style came out.

Pay it forward. All three cars I’ve had the warranty on had paid it back at sale of the car or paid more than the car was worth.

I'm going to say get the extended warranty and this is why. I have a 2017 Tahoe. Had 50 miles on it when I get it in 2017. Base on my 2004 Trailblazer and the fact that I've had very little real trouble with it, I got yhr warrant on the drive train only. I've had oil issues, in the for the shop of 6 weeks, they replaced the engine last year in the shop for another 6 months. 2020, it's in the shop for the ac in March. I got the extended warranty on the drive train but figure i could do the rest of the work. They charged me $750 in March to fix the AC and now want to charge another $1100 a month later to fix the AC again since it stop working about 30 days later. An extended warranty would had paid for itself 3 times over had I got the full extended warranty. I'm now looking for a good AC Condenser so I can fix the AC.

I have a 18 suburban with 76k miles that's became a money pit. I wish I had an extended warranty so I vote yes.
