My wife loves her 2004 Yukon so I guess we will be driving it for a while longer. The truck has about 105K miles on it and we have been contemplating whether or not to buy an extended warranty. I generally do not buy extended warranties, but thought I would ask you guys for your input. Any comments would be appreciated, either pro or con.

Also, if we do go that route is it better to buy through dealer or go independent?

Look online, you can get them cheaper, but at 100K and over, they still charge you alot for the warranty...they told me because at 100k, something breaking inevitable .

I did some checking and found a few companies, but not real sure if this is the way to go. One of the companies was quoting $595/year for 5yr 100K warranty.

Costs does not seem excessive for coverage, but was wondering if other posters have any experience going the extended warranty route. Ie companies not covering certain items, bad customer service/response time etc. I do not normally buy extended coverage so this is my first attempt for any auto.

The two companies that were trying to sell me the coverage are as follows:

Carsafe
Vehicle Protection of America

Not so sure that both are not owned by same company. The sales leaflet I got in the mail from both of them was almost 100% identical.

Any experiences positive or negative would be appreciated.

Also, have any of you gone the dealer route for extended coverage? Has that been positive??

When I bought my Tahoe at a Chevy Dealership in March I bought an extended warranty through a company called CIS I believe. Paid about $1000 for it, covers bumper to bumper for three years or a certain mileage. It is not anywhere near as good as the manufacturers warranty, and the reason I say this is I took my truck in to get checked for a noise coming from the back left wheel, I can't remember what the dealership said was the issue, but they said the only way my extended warranty would cover it is if the part failed completely!!! So I'm definitely disappointed in it, just make sure that they will cover you if a part is beginning to fail... just my two cents...

I have one and have used it twice with no problems. It is through the credit union that is financing my truck. I can't remember the name of it though. I got it for 2 yrs or 128,000 miles, whichever hits first. It is complete bumper to bumper and only added 1,000 to the amount financed. Bought the truck with 97,060 on the dash. I have 103,330 on it right now. Had a wheel hub and heater core replaced at GM dealership with the warranty. IMO, it has already paid for itself.
