I got my 08 Denali a few weeks ago with 80k miles, i was offered and extended warranty but i decided to not take it until the powertrain one experies (5yrs/100kmiles).

1) My question is, can i add an extended warranty later on, and when exactly(i heard it has to be done within a certain time while the powertrain one is still going)? I was thinking to get the extended warranty once i get close to 95k miles, is that valid?

2) The major question is WHAT IS THE BEST EXTENDED OUT THERE? Which company is the best thing for the buck? I dont mind the $100 deductible deals either.

Thanks

First check the purchased date of vehicle. It may be an 08 but purchase in late 07 and warranty may be near end. Had that happen to wife's 07 Buick last year found out that it was purchased in 06 and that when warranty started. It's just at 58k now but will get extended warranty soon. I did how ever purchase a extended power train warranty on my 2000 Tahoe Limited 5yr 100k miles for 1700 four years ago when it had 144K. Good thing because I had trans and rear end rebuilt last year. Now she has 204K miles on her and have less than a year and 40K left. I have American Guardian out of Glen Ellyn IL.

I'd contact the dealer back and ask them if they still have something available.

We got the GM Major Guard at 35k miles just before the factory 3/36 expired. Unfortunately this isn't available for you now, but its by far the best warranty for GM vehicles.

yeah i will contact them once i am near that 95k mark, and to answer the built date, the vehicles powertrain expires in Sept2013. yea it sucks that GM Major Guard cannot be purchased after 36k miles.

I would definitely purchase some kind of extended warranty if I were you. I have an 08 Denali that I purchased in January of 2010 and I have had it in the shop 8 times now. For everything from a broken motor mount to a shoddy paint job done by the dealer prior to my purchase.

Luckly by looking at the vehicle history given by the dealer (btw i am 2nd owner) it seems like the previous owner did all the so called "major" issues involved with this gen body style (from; elctrical issues, door actuators and also had the left cyl head replaced due to a faulty valve) so I am hoping I do not run into those issues again, but then again daily useage of every vehicle leads to some kind of part failing, just hope its not a major one.

Yeah i def want to get the exended warranty just not sure whats out there. I was looking on line at those auto warranty contracts (aka private, non oem warranties) and people dont really talk good things about them. So i need some either OEM or a very popular/reputable company that will not screw me over when i need them. On my 06 jeep i had the maxcare, i am not sure if that was chrysler's version of extended warranty, but with $100 deductiable i was able use it all the time with no hassle.

how much less is the mileage? at $2600 seems reasonable, but the dealer i got the yukon at wanted $3000 for 3/36, so around $1000 a year. i could not justify myself to spend that kind of money, thats why i figured i would just invest on one once the powertrain one expires.
