I just got a factory nav unit for my 07 tahoe with bose. I want to add a back up camera now. I've read a few threads about a box under the passenger side seat to do something??

I don't have this box under my seat. Can I add a camera to my factory head unit? I have the harness with my the RCA plug. Do I just plug it up, get the camera power and switch it on using the back up lights when it's in reverse?

What would be easier a factory camera or an aftermarket one?

Any suggestions of where to buy one and which one to buy including harness needed is appreciated.

Thanks,

I know that's a lot of questions and a lot of people are doing this. I plan to write up with pics my experience in doing this. Currently my head unit is a bose, cd, am/fm/xm unit only. The nav/dvd/am/fm/xm/camera unit is going to be great once I get it in.

Thanks again,

I ended up getting a factory camera off ebay for about about $35 then cutting the plug off and running wires up to my head unit. I pulled power from the back up lights and it worked great. ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: you must use a voltage reducer in line for the camera, stepping down the 12v to 5v. Otherwise you will fry the camera. I know because I did that the first time. At $35 not an overly expensive lesson but a lesson I wouldn't want someone else to repeat.
Good luck

You're navigation must have been programmed already for camera?
There are a few options out there for camera...I have done the factory and factory like cameras, what ever you go with will require an input harness into the Nav which I just build myself. Dealer programming will be required though to get the navigation to switch inputs when placed into reverse as that is controlled through the CAN system

I had to have my camera function turned on at a dealership. The rca plug was already there on mine, all I did was plug up the factory camera and step down the input voltage from 12v to 5v. I think if an aftermarket camera was used it would maybe have been 12v to begin with but I found the factory camera so cheap I went that route. So far so good.

Hi Anthony - Not to be rude in hijacking this thread, but I'm in this exact boat right now and I'd appreciate some knowledge. My 2007 Yukon's camera went black, and I got a cheap replacement camera that is 12v and works great and has an RCA plug. (THIS ONE: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006N5C0O0/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

Problem is my head unit/nav doesn't have an RCA jack. My head unit is (15882766) and I've been searching and came up with *maybe* I can wire into this brown connector and I've even seen a (camera adaptor) that might be right --- BUT REALLY I just want to specifically know how to do this logically – like if there are wires going from the underseat box up to the head unit ALREADY, why not just chop the RCA ********, connect to them and be done? But which one?

Any info you can provide me would be GREATLY APPRECIATED, specifically what wires/pins I should use and where? (like what pins are written on that adaptor's tag?)

My head unit and underseat box images are attached -- if that helps explain anything... thanks for any help!
